Fushun Petrochemical has successfully developed a new gasoline upgrade catalyst
The project titled "Development of a New Type of Catalytically Cracked Gasoline Hydrogenation and Reforming Catalyst" has been successfully developed by the catalyst plant of China Petroleum Fushun Petrochemical Company. This breakthrough marks a significant achievement in domestic catalytic technology, showcasing the company's strong R&D capabilities.
The project team worked tirelessly over a seven-year period to bring this innovation to life. On November 6, 2007, the 200,000 tons/year facility was officially commissioned. After a thorough heating, temperature stabilization, and system commissioning process, sample analysis confirmed that both product quality and technical parameters met the design specifications. This marked the official start of stable operation and long-term testing for the facility.
The development journey began with technical introduction in 2001, followed by self-developed research in 2002. The first industrial trial took place in 2004, and by 2005, the project received approval from CNPC experts during an appraisal in Dalian, officially entering the implementation phase. By November 2007, the project achieved excellent results. It is now being applied in the 100,000 tons/year plant of the First Oil Plant at Fushun Petrochemical Company. The successful application in two facilities demonstrates that the technology for catalytic upgrading of gasoline has reached a mature stage.
This new hydrogenation catalyst technology allows for maintaining the octane number of gasoline while simultaneously reducing sulfur content and improving fuel quality. An expert panel has recognized that this technology is at the forefront of domestic standards and fills a critical gap in PetroChina’s gasoline upgrading capabilities. It is expected to play a vital role in advancing China’s clean gasoline production and enhancing the quality of fuel products across the country.
