Waterborne container coatings developed successfully

The "Waterborne Container Coatings" project, developed by VAIC under the VABC initiative, has recently successfully passed the scientific and technological achievements appraisal. This breakthrough marks a significant step forward in the development of eco-friendly coating solutions for the container industry. The project includes a water-based primer, intermediate coat, and topcoat that can all be applied using a three-coat baking process. It effectively overcomes the technical challenges associated with online coating on high-efficiency container production lines. Importantly, the company maintained the original rhythm of the container production line while applying traditional solvent-based paint parameters. As a result, the waterborne coatings now offer equivalent performance in terms of protection, water resistance, hardness, and gloss compared to conventional solvent-based coatings. The product was tested by the U.S. KTA (Container Paint Inspection Agency) laboratory and has also led to the filing of three national invention patents. To date, the company has produced 100 tons of waterborne container coatings, which have been applied to more than 800 standard containers. This environmentally friendly anti-corrosion coating not only meets industrial standards but also opens up new possibilities for use in other sectors such as rail transportation. With its low environmental impact and strong performance, the product is expected to have broad application potential in various corrosion protection fields. The successful implementation of this project demonstrates the company’s commitment to innovation and sustainable development in the coatings industry.
