Chile's water-soluble fertilizers start selling in China
The reporter recently discovered that Hebei Jitai Agricultural Service Co., Ltd. has partnered with Chilean Chemical Mining Co., Ltd. (SQM), a global leader in fertilizer production, to introduce the Sukumi series of water-soluble fertilizers into the Chinese market. These products, including Sukumi Chilean Potassium, Sukumi Calcium Magnesium Nitrate, and Sukumi Polyboron, are now available in key regions such as Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, Shanxi, and Henan. This expansion marks a significant step for SQM in tapping into China's growing agricultural sector.
SQM is a multinational corporation known for its advanced fertilizer technology and access to some of the world’s highest-quality nitrate and potassium resources. It holds a dominant position in the global potassium nitrate market, controlling over 56% of the total supply. SQM’s products are fully water-soluble, highly compatible with other fertilizers, and free from harmful ions like chloride and heavy metals. This makes them ideal for reducing soil salinity and enhancing both crop quality and yield.
According to projections by the World Fertilizer Association, global sales of potassium nitrate are expected to grow at an annual rate of 6% to 8% over the next decade. Major markets include Asia, Europe, South America, and the United States. In China, the country is divided by the Qinling Mountains and the Huaihe River, with northern regions featuring calcareous soils and southern areas having acidic soils—both of which are well-suited for potassium nitrate application. However, domestic production of potassium nitrate for agricultural use remains limited, with most of the existing supply directed toward industrial applications. As a result, there is a growing opportunity for high-quality, specialized fertilizers like those offered by SQM to fill this gap and support sustainable agricultural development in China.
