Chile's water-soluble fertilizers start selling in China
The reporter recently learned from Hebei Jitai Agricultural Service Co., Ltd. that the Chilean Chemical Mining Company (SQM), a key agent of the company, has introduced its water-soluble fertilizer line—Sukumi Chilean Potassium, Sukumi Calcium Magnesium Nitrate, and Sukumi Polyboron—into the Chinese market. These products are now being sold in major regions such as Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, Shanxi, and Henan. This marks a significant step in expanding SQM’s presence in one of the world’s largest agricultural markets.
SQM is a global leader in fertilizer production, known for its advanced technology and access to some of the world's most premium nitrate and potassium resources. As the largest producer of potassium nitrate, SQM holds over 56% of the global market share. Its product range includes fully water-soluble fertilizers with excellent solubility and compatibility. Importantly, these fertilizers are free from harmful ions like chlorine and heavy metals, which helps prevent soil salinization and significantly enhances both crop quality and yield.
According to forecasts by the World Fertilizer Association, global sales of potassium nitrate are expected to grow at an annual rate of 6% to 8% over the next decade. Key markets include Asia, Europe, South America, and the United States. In China, the geographical divide between the north and south presents unique soil conditions: the northern regions have calcareous soils, while the southern areas are more acidic—both of which are well-suited for the application of potassium nitrate.
However, currently, domestic production of potassium nitrate in China remains limited, with most of the supply used in industrial applications rather than agriculture. As a result, the agricultural use of potassium nitrate in China is still in its early stages, creating a growing demand for high-quality, specialized fertilizers like those offered by SQM. With increasing awareness of soil health and sustainable farming practices, the potential for growth in this sector looks very promising.
