Evonik is building a cyanuric chloride base in Shanghai
The groundbreaking ceremony for the cyanuric chloride production base, established by Evonik Degussa Sanzheng (Yingkou) Fine Chemical Co., Ltd., recently took place in Chongqing Industrial Park. This joint venture, formed between Evonik Industries AG and its Chinese partner, marks a significant step forward in the company’s strategy to strengthen its global presence in the cyanuric chloride market.
Scheduled for completion by the end of 2008, the new facility is expected to employ around 280 workers. Once operational, it will significantly boost China’s annual cyanuric chloride output, increasing it to 60,000 tons—double the current level. Dr. Ying Kaishi, head of the chemical business at Evonik Group, emphasized that this expansion is crucial for maintaining the company’s competitive edge. He noted, “With the rapid economic growth in China, we are positioning this site as a key hub for our cyanuric chloride operations. Localizing production will allow us to better serve our customers and meet their evolving needs.â€
The project is managed by Degussa Sanzheng (Yingkou) Fine Chemicals Co., Ltd., which was founded in 2005 in Yingkou, northeastern China. The company is owned 65% by Evonik Group, and over the years, it has grown into one of the leading manufacturers of cyanuric chloride in both China and Asia.
Chongqing Industrial Park was chosen for its strategic advantages, including access to abundant raw materials and well-developed industrial infrastructure. This investment is part of a broader trend of major projects Evonik has undertaken in China in recent years. As a global leader in specialty chemicals, energy, and real estate, Evonik has been active in the Chinese market since the early 1990s and currently operates 18 companies across the country.
This new production base not only strengthens Evonik’s market position but also reflects its long-term commitment to the Chinese economy and its growing role in the global chemical industry.
