Tianjin ethylene project main equipment basic design has been completed
Since March 9, 2007, following the approval of the overall design plan for Sinopec Tianjin’s 1 million tons/year ethylene and supporting project by the headquarters, the project has progressed significantly. The basic design work was launched in full swing, with key milestones achieved through close coordination and collaboration. After two major coordination meetings organized by the headquarters focused on engineering construction in Tianjin, the design schedule was clearly defined, challenges were addressed, responsibilities were clarified, and the pace of design was accelerated.
Through the joint efforts of all parties involved, the basic design work is now largely completed, with several key units having received final approval from the headquarters. Concurrently, detailed design activities have been fully underway, ensuring a solid foundation for the next phase of the project.
In line with the headquarters’ unified deployment and the goals set during the engineering coordination meeting, Tianjin Petrochemical intensified its efforts to meet project deadlines. In early 2007, the company made significant organizational adjustments, including restructuring teams and enhancing staffing. To strengthen the design team, 40 professional technicians were transferred from the original production preparation and equipment departments into the design department. Additionally, personnel from different branches were assigned to support the design team, increasing its size from 18 to 89 members. This expansion greatly improved the capacity and efficiency of the design process.
To ensure the economic viability, rationality, and quality of the entire project, Tianjin Petrochemical repeatedly organized design reviews and worked closely with the design units to refine the plans and improve the unified regulations. This helped lay a strong foundation for the subsequent development of the project.
Moreover, the company ensured smooth communication and coordination among all parties. Clear design interfaces, management procedures, and information channels were established. For units that failed to provide timely design conditions, active coordination was carried out to maintain the project timeline.
Currently, the basic design of all 19 new-build and retrofit installations under the refinery project has been reviewed and approved by the headquarters. Except for the 350,000 tons/year phenol/acetone plant and the 8 sets of new equipment for the ethylene project, the remaining 7 sets of equipment have already passed their basic design review and received headquarters' approval. The thermal power project and the railway expansion and reconstruction project have also completed their basic design reviews and are now officially approved.
