Here's a report from Rob G (Gfdrob): Rob G (Gfdrob) photo It was a tough call that day. The building was fully involved by the time we got there, and the conditions were really challenging. The soft floor made it hard to get any water on the fire from the front, so we had to go defensive. I think the team did a great job managing the situation and keeping things under control. It's always a reminder of how fast a fire can spread and how important it is to act quickly. Working fire in Calumet City, 1-5-21
On January 5, 2021, around 09:00 hours, at 31-154th Place, Lauer’s Tap, a 20×60 one-story building. The initial call was for a smoke investigation. Engine 11 arrived and found heavy smoke coming from the structure. Firefighters from Engine 11 attempted to advance a line through the front door, but deteriorating conditions and a soft floor made it impossible to make progress. They pulled the lines back and switched to defensive operations. A total of four engine companies, along with SH T-43, deployed a master stream to control the fire.
