Thank you for helping the students of Nejambezi Secondary School in Jambezi Village, near Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe. Your generous support has made a real difference in the lives of these young learners and their community. At World Bicycle Relief, we believe that education is the key to breaking the cycle of poverty and disease. For many students in rural areas, a bicycle isn’t just a means of transport—it’s a lifeline. It helps them travel long distances to school safely and efficiently, giving them the chance to study, grow, and dream bigger. The Buffalo Bicycles are simple, durable, and built to last. Designed for rough terrain and heavy use, they are assembled locally, which not only ensures quality but also supports local jobs and economies. Beyond just distributing bicycles, our Bicycles for Education Empowerment Program (BEEP) empowers communities by training local members to form the Bicycle Supervisory Committee (BSC). This group plays a vital role in ensuring the program runs smoothly and responsibly. The BSC selects students based on distance traveled and other vulnerability criteria. They also create guidelines to ensure the bicycles are used properly and maintained well. Monthly meetings help track progress and address any challenges that arise. We also train a local field mechanic who can repair the bikes, replace parts, and perform regular maintenance. This not only keeps the program running but also creates economic opportunities for individuals and families in the area. The bicycle distribution ceremony is a joyful celebration where students receive their new Buffalo Bicycles. These events bring the whole community together, creating a sense of pride and hope. During the ceremony, students (along with their parents or guardians) sign a contract stating that the bicycle becomes their personal property after graduation. In return, they commit to attending school regularly and using the bike to improve their household's livelihood, as long as it doesn’t interfere with their studies. Thanks to your generous donation, 120 students at Nejambezi Secondary School received life-changing bicycles during the recent distribution event. This gift will help them reach school safely, stay in school longer, and build a better future for themselves and their families.
Our vision for 2019 and beyond is to continue innovating, collaborating, and building stronger, more educated communities. With your ongoing support, we can reach millions of children who face the challenge of distance every day. Every bicycle we distribute is more than just a vehicle—it’s a tool for change, a step toward a brighter future, and a symbol of hope.
