Remembrance Rescue Project – FDNY R5
Scott Nacheman discovered the FDNY Rescue 5, one of the last remaining rescue trucks from the World Trade Center on 9/11, being restored in Northbrook as part of the Rescue Remembrance Project. Earlier, we covered the acquisition of X-FDNY R-4 in articles found HERE, HERE, and HERE.
According to the Rescue Remembrance Project:
"In December 2011, the project acquired the final rescue truck from 9/11—Rescue 5. It was transported to the Chicago facility and is now undergoing restoration. The truck will be unveiled at FDIC in Indianapolis this month.
Rescue 5 recently received a fresh coat of paint by Capital Truck Body in Cicero and is currently at MPC Lighting in Northbrook for lighting upgrades. Jacquette Custom Lettering is handling all the striping and hand-painting the original artwork that once adorned the truck.
The goal is to restore the truck as close to its original condition as possible, preserving its historical significance and honoring the brave firefighters who served on 9/11."
This ongoing effort not only preserves a piece of history but also serves as a powerful tribute to the heroes of 9/11. As the truck nears completion, it stands as a symbol of resilience, remembrance, and the enduring spirit of the fire service.
