Gurnee MVA on Rt 120

This morning, Jeff Rudolph shared these photos from a multi-vehicle accident (MVA) he witnessed near a railroad overpass on Route 120 in Park City. According to his description, Gurnee Fire Department's Engine 1321 and Ladder 1342 responded to the scene following reports of an incident caused by black ice. The crash involved three vehicles, two of which suffered significant damage. Firefighters from Engine 1321 had to use extrication tools to help free at least one person who was trapped inside a severely damaged car. The severity of the situation prompted additional support, with both Waukegan and North Chicago ambulances being called in to assist. Ultimately, a total of three ambulances were dispatched to transport the injured parties to nearby hospitals—Condell and Vista East Medical Center. One of the ambulances, North Chicago Ambulance 1546, was photographed on-site, clearly busy aiding those affected by the crash. Looking at the images, it’s clear how challenging the conditions were. In one photo, you can see Engine 1321 parked prominently at the scene, its presence a reassuring sign that emergency services were hard at work. Another image captures one of the damaged vehicles involved, showing just how intense the collision must have been. Meanwhile, another shot highlights the dedication of the first responders, who worked quickly under pressure to ensure everyone received the care they needed. As someone who saw the aftermath firsthand, Jeff’s captions provide crucial context to these harrowing scenes. His documentation serves as a reminder of both the dangers posed by weather-related hazards like black ice and the heroic efforts of local firefighters and paramedics when such accidents occur. It’s always tough to witness situations like this, but knowing that professionals are there to help makes all the difference.
