Gurnee MVA on Rt 120
This morning, Jeff Rudolph sent these photos from a multi-vehicle accident (MVA) that took place due to black ice on Route 120 near a railroad overpass in Park City. Here’s what he wrote about it:
"Early this morning, Gurnee Fire Department Units 1321 and 1342 responded to an MVA triggered by icy conditions on Route 120. Three cars were involved, with two suffering significant damage. The team from Engine 1321 had to perform extrication efforts to help those trapped in the vehicles. In total, three ambulances were called to the scene—two from Waukegan and North Chicago, along with Gurnee's own unit. All victims were transported to either Condell or Vista East hospitals."
Attached are some images capturing the aftermath of the crash. The first photo shows North Chicago Ambulance 1546 arriving on the scene, one of the three units that eventually transported the injured parties. The second image highlights one of the vehicles involved, clearly showing the extent of the damage caused by the collision. Next, we see Gurnee Engine 1321 parked at the site, ready to assist in any way necessary during such emergencies. Finally, another shot captures firefighters using equipment from Engine 1321 to carefully extract someone who got trapped inside their vehicle after the impact.
These photos really bring home how dangerous driving conditions can be when there’s ice on the roads, emphasizing the importance of caution while traveling under adverse weather circumstances. It’s always best to slow down and take extra care when the roads aren’t dry and clear!
