In DuPage County’s Division 12, the Carol Stream Fire District operates out of three stations, each playing a vital role in maintaining the safety of the community. At its core, the district staffs one engine company, a two-piece squad company, a tower ladder, three ambulances, and a battalion chief. Their fleet includes two E-ONE engines, an E-ONE tower ladder, an Alexis engine, and an Alexis heavy rescue vehicle. All ambulances are provided by Life Line and mounted on various IHC chassis.
Station 1 serves as the headquarters and is equipped with four drive-through bays. It houses administrative offices, a comprehensive training facility, and even a burn tower. This station maintains a robust setup, including a battalion car, an ambulance, and a tower ladder quint. Alongside these, it also holds a spare ambulance, an OEM Mobile Command Unit, a spare engine, and a couple of antiques, including an FPB and other specialized vehicles.

Further along, Station 3 is situated at 1045 Lies Road. Here, the district operates a unique two-piece squad company that always responds together. The first part of the squad is Squad 235, a 2006 Spartan Gladiator Classic/Alexis 1500/750 pumper squad. The second component is Rescue 235, a 2010 Spartan Metro Star Alexis HDR, which is their latest acquisition. Rescue 235 is packed with advanced technical rescue equipment, including hydraulic tools for auto extrication, an air cascade system, and extensive TRT (Technical Rescue Team) materials.
The interior of Rescue 235 is meticulously organized, with both sides fully loaded with technical rescue gear. The hydraulic rescue tools are kept on Squad 235, making it the primary response vehicle for such tasks. The rear door of the rescue unit is designed like a ramp, allowing easy access to the large lumber stored down the center. A folding ladder at the rear provides roof access to reach the top storage compartments.
Interestingly, the Carol Stream Fire District's website offers a detailed history of the department, tracing back to the Keeneyville Fire Protection District and the Carol Stream Company. For many years, their apparatus was painted black over yellow, but in 1996, they switched to a full red color scheme.
