Chicago Still Alarm fire 8-24-13
From the report by Dan Shevlin:
At approximately 0615 hours on August 24, 2013, a structure fire was reported in the 5300 block of South Shields Avenue. Smoke was visible coming from the northbound side of a one-and-a-half-story building. The fire had already spread to the walls and was moving upward into the attic when crews arrived. Firefighters quickly deployed one line, opened the roof, and had the flames under control and extinguished shortly after my arrival.
Units responding included Engine 84, Truck 50, Squad 361, Squad 328, Squad 247, Tower Ladder 555, and Rescue Truck 273. Additional resources like RIT (Rapid Intervention Team) units 3210 and 249 were also dispatched to ensure safety.
Attached are several photos taken by Dan Shevlin, capturing the scene as firefighters worked diligently to contain the blaze. The images show the intensity of the smoke and the coordinated efforts of the Chicago Fire Department to manage the situation effectively. These photos provide a clear glimpse into the challenging conditions faced by first responders during such incidents.
