Regarding the decline in output value, the participants believed that there were two main reasons: First, the shipping market remained sluggish, shipowners’ ship repair demand continued to decline, and currently focused on low value-added projects such as changing boards and painting; The competition between them has become increasingly fierce and the price of ship repairs has continued to fall. In addition, the shortage of labor resources and rising labor costs have brought considerable pressure on the production and operation of ship repairing enterprises.
In the face of difficulties, some of the ship repairing companies have also proposed countermeasures and future development plans while calling for “injury”. Among them, a ship repairing enterprise in Guangdong Province has achieved good results in the marine engineering equipment modification business by adjusting the product structure, accelerating the transformation and upgrading. The company's offshore business achieved output value of about half of the total output value in the first half of the year. There are also ship repairing companies that will expand the non-shipping fields such as steel structures in the future to make up for the lack of ship repair business.
In view of the grim situation currently faced by ship repairing enterprises, industry experts pointed out that in the absence of obvious improvement in the international shipping market, enterprises should strengthen self-help, and strive to improve service levels and increase cost control, and concentrate on developing markets.
