Western Springs is added to the site
Another department in MABAS Division 10 has been added to the site. The Western Springs Fire Department currently operates from one station located at 4353 Wolf Road, with Station 2 currently under construction at 5501 Grand Avenue. The department's fleet includes two Medtec ambulances, three engines, a ladder truck, and a command vehicle. Staffing is a mix of full-time, contract, part-time, and POC (Part-Time On Call) personnel.
Currently, the apparatus is painted white over red, but past vehicles—shown in the historic photo gallery—were all white. These older units had a more traditional look, with some featuring two-tone color schemes. The current images were provided by Bill Friedrich, who has also contributed historical photos and updates on the new station.
As the department continues to grow, both its physical infrastructure and equipment are evolving. The new station is expected to improve response times and provide better facilities for the team. With ongoing efforts to preserve history, the collection of old photos and equipment helps tell the story of Western Springs Fire Department’s rich legacy.
