2nd Alarm commercial fire in Batavia, 3-5-14 (more)
From John Tulipano's account of the second-alarm fire in Batavia last Wednesday evening:
As I was driving back from responding to another fire in St. Charles, I received the alert from Tri-Com about a potential fire near 1st and Mallory in Batavia. The police on the scene reported visible flames coming from the second-floor windows. By the time the Batavia fire chief arrived, he confirmed that it was a large foundry-style building, approximately 300 feet by 75 feet, fully engulfed in flames. He immediately ordered the first engine to use the deck gun and requested details about his initial two truck companies. Without hesitation, he called for a second alarm.
Attached are some photos I took during the incident. Unfortunately, I haven't had the chance to go through all of them yet, but I’ll have a full gallery up on SmugMug later today. The images capture everything from firefighters battling the blaze to the impressive setup of the Batavia tower ladder as they worked to control the situation.
The fire broke out at Master Cast, Inc., located at 106 South Mallory Street in Batavia. It was a bitterly cold night, which added an extra layer of challenge for the firefighters. You can see the intensity of their efforts in the photos, especially how they positioned the tower ladder for maximum effectiveness.

It’s incredible to see how quickly these fires can spread, even in colder weather. The teamwork and coordination among the various departments were crucial in managing such a challenging situation. I hope the community stays safe as investigations continue into the cause of this fire.
