Glenside FPD working fire 4-18-14
**From John Tulipano:**
This happened earlier today, and I just had to share it because it was one of those situations where everything aligned perfectly. It was around 8:50 AM on April 18th, 2014, when Glenside Fire Protection District got a call about a dryer fire at 644 Burdette in Glendale Heights. Interestingly, I was only two blocks away, near North Avenue and Glen Ellyn Road, when the dispatch came through.
As I headed toward the address, DuComm announced that everyone was safely outside the house and there were visible flames coming from the dryer. By the time I reached the location, the homeowner and their kids were already standing outside. The Glendale Heights police pulled up right behind me. Engine 58 and Medic 59 arrived shortly after—just about two minutes later—and they quickly deployed a 1-3/4 inch attack line to knock down the fire. Additional units started arriving soon after that.
In my rush to get everything ready, I made a rookie mistake—I forgot to double-check my ISO settings and ended up shooting all my photos at 2500. Thankfully, they’re slightly overexposed, but thanks to shooting in RAW and editing them in Lightroom, I managed to salvage most of them. Honestly, I’m lucky it worked out this way!
Here are some shots I took that day. The first photo shows a firefighter pulling the hose into position. In another, you can see him preparing to enter the structure. There’s also an image of a firefighter working with a wye adapter, which is always fascinating to watch. The final photo captures the overall scene of the house fire, along with a Ferrara fire engine parked nearby.
