Most data centers use decentralized communication protocols. That is, each node in the network decides based on its own limited observations, which neighboring node is sent to make the fastest. Dealing with large-scale networks with decentralized agreements has no advantage in managing communications. The MIT system, called Rapid Pass, no longer uses the arbiter to determine when a node in the network passes through which adjacent node.
