It is reported that Canada's Seaspan Company has placed orders for Jiangsu Yangzijiang Shipbuilding to build 7 + 18 10000teu container ships. The power of these ships will be provided by MAN's new ultra-long stroke 10S90ME-C9 engine, built by Shanghai Chuan Chuan Mitsui Shipbuilding Diesel Co., Ltd. (CMD).
It is reported that, traditionally, the 8000-10000teu capacity container ship is mainly supported by the MAN K98 machine. The new high-power, ultra-long-stroke S90ME-C9 engine caters to this market trend, which improves overall efficiency by approximately 7% compared to existing mainframes.
Seaspan has entered into a final meeting with MAN Diesel & Turbo for the expansion of its new container fleet. The original consideration was the MAN B&W K98ME-C, which was later identified as the 10S90ME-C9, shipyard and designer. The corresponding design changes were made.
