Volvo Gas Bus Launches in Indian Market

Recently, the Swedish bus manufacturer Volvo invested a new type of compressed natural gas (CNG) passenger car in the Indian market to compete with rivals such as Tata Motors and Ashok Leyland. Akash Passey, Managing Director of Volvo Bus India, said at the auto show: “This CGN passenger car is produced at our factory in Bangalore, and has six more seats than other luxury passenger cars used in India.”

“Our prices are higher than those of other products. Now we are talking to several government departments including the Delhi government. Our passenger cars have all the additional safety features required, such as air temperature controllers.” Did not say the price of this new car.

“Currently, with Volvo CGN buses , we are preparing for a larger share of urban passenger cars.” In 2009, the company had sold 540 non-CNG passenger cars and set a sales target of at least 1,000 vehicles this year.
