Vintage Chicago fire scenes

Here's a message from Steve Redick:

I remember taking in a powerful scene from a hotel fire on Montrose Avenue, a dramatic high-rise blaze on South Shore Drive (which had several fires over the years), and a tragic fire at the Conrad Hilton Hotel. My dad and I watched it all unfold, and I still recall seeing bed sheets hanging out of the windows.

These images offer a glimpse into some of the most memorable and impactful moments from Chicago’s past—fires that left lasting impressions on those who witnessed them. The Montclair Hotel, the high-rises on South Shore Drive, and the Conrad Hilton Hotel each played a role in shaping the city’s history. As Steve recalls, these were not just news stories; they were real-life events that brought families together, whether through fear, concern, or simply watching the flames from a safe distance.
