Vintage Chicago fire scenes

This message comes from Steve Redick:

I remember a nice photo taken during a hotel fire on Montrose Avenue, a dramatic high-rise blaze on South Shore Drive (which had several fires over the years), and a tragic fire at the Conrad Hilton Hotel. My dad and I watched the news coverage together, and I still recall seeing bed sheets hanging out of the windows as people tried to escape.

These images are part of the Warren Redick collection and offer a glimpse into some of the most memorable and tragic events in Chicago's history. The Montclair Hotel fire, the high-rise blaze on South Shore Drive, and the devastating fire at the Conrad Hilton Hotel all left lasting impressions on those who witnessed them. Each photo tells a story of loss, resilience, and the power of the human spirit in times of crisis.
