Traditional Wet Down in Buffalo Grove

The Buffalo Grove Fire Department brought a taste of the classic East Coast volunteer fire company tradition to the Chicago area this morning. They held a wet-down ceremony to officially welcome their new Ferrara engine and Ferrara tower ladder to their station. The event drew current and former department members, village officials, and special guests, all gathered to celebrate the arrival of the new equipment. Chief Vavra delivered a short opening speech before the rigs were hosed down in a time-honored tradition. Afterward, firefighters and guests helped dry the apparatus before pushing them into Station 26. Both units are expected to be fully operational within the next 18 months. The new engine will be stationed at Station 27, while the tower ladder will take up residence at Station 26. This move means the KME 75’ Quint currently at Station 27 will be relocated to Station 25. Buffalo Grove is replacing its 1991 E-One 75’ Hush Quint and 1989 Seagrave engine with these modern, high-performance units. The new Ferrara engine and tower ladder represent a significant upgrade for the department, enhancing their ability to respond to emergencies across the community. Photos from the event capture the excitement of the day, including firefighters and guests working together to prepare the new rigs for service. The apparatus bay door at Station 26 was raised last year to accommodate the larger tower ladder, showing the department’s forward-thinking approach to modernization. These images offer a glimpse into the spirit and dedication that define the Buffalo Grove Fire Department.
