Highland Park 2-11 5-9-11
The Highland Park Fire Department was called to a fire in the attic of a large, three-story brick home on Sheridan Road shortly after 7 p.m. on Monday. Upon arrival, firefighters noticed flames coming through the roof of the house, prompting an immediate escalation to a working fire response. As units were en route, mutual aid from Glencoe, Deerfield, and Highwood was requested. First-arriving companies made a strong effort to attack the fire but struggled to access the attic due to the complex roof structure.
The situation worsened quickly, leading to a second alarm call that brought additional engines from Northbrook, Winnetka, Lake Bluff, and Knollwood, along with trucks from Northfield and Wheeling. Wilmette sent a squad, while ambulances from Highland Park, Highwood, Prospect Heights, and Libertyville arrived on scene to assist with any injuries.
Photos from the scene show heavy smoke billowing from the attic, with flames visible above the third floor. Highwood was the first truck on the scene, positioning their 75' HME/Smeal quint opposite Highland Park Engine 32, a 2010 Spartan Gladiator/Crimson unit. The engine took the south side of the driveway and connected to a hydrant across the street. As the fire burned through the eaves, firefighters were seen standing in areas where the roof had collapsed.
Despite the challenges, crews managed to contain the fire to the upper floors, though water and smoke spread throughout the house. Northfield’s truck was set up as a precaution but did not enter the structure. Tim Olk and Larry Shapiro both captured powerful images of the incident, with Tim sharing his gallery [here](#) and Larry providing his collection [here](#). The fire is still under investigation, and no injuries have been reported at this time.
