The Elios 3 RAD Wins Innovation Award at 2023 World Nuclear Exhibition
In 2023, Flyability introduced the first payload for their modular Elios 3 drone: the RAD. Developed in partnership with Mirion Technologies, a leader in radiation detection, measurement, analysis, and monitoring solutions, the Elios 3 RAD stands out as the go-to tool for identifying, pinpointing, and quantifying radiation exposure—all while keeping operators safely distanced.

Towards the end of the same year, Flyability joined forces with Foretec to showcase their innovations at the World Nuclear Exhibition in Paris, France. Held from November 28th to 30th, the event drew over 20,000 attendees, all keenly focused on overcoming the challenges of working with nuclear materials. Amidst the numerous projects and solutions presented, the Flyability Elios 3 RAD caught the attention of the judges and was awarded the Nuclear Safety Innovation prize by a panel of five experts. This award highlights advancements in safeguarding the integrity of mechanisms, processes, tools, and instruments handling radioactive substances, protecting both humans and the environment.
The Elios 3 RAD is proving its worth worldwide, having been used to inspect an irradiated vault in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Energy and currently undergoing trials at the UK's largest nuclear waste management facility, Sellafield. Its applications span nuclear waste operations and site inspections, with more than 80% of U.S. nuclear power plants already utilizing an Elios drone. Looking ahead, the Elios 3 RAD will play a crucial role in enhancing safety measures and data acquisition across the nuclear industry.
