2-Alarm fire in Cicero, 6-1-21

Around midday on Tuesday, Cicero firefighters responded to reports of flames coming from a building near 28th and Cicero Avenue. As more calls came in, the exact location was updated to 4827 & 4829 West 28th Street. Engine Company 3 was the first to arrive and reported significant fire visible from the back of a two-and-a-half-story wooden structure, with concerns about spreading to nearby buildings. Shortly after, Cicero Fire Engine F12 arrived and quickly surrounded the area. F12 confirmed heavy fire in two connected two-and-a-half-story buildings. Three Cicero engines deployed multiple 2.5-inch hoses to tackle the blaze. Truck Company 2 attempted an aggressive "Milwaukee-style" cut on the roof, which helped preserve part of the roof on one of the structures. Meanwhile, Truck Company 1 was on the roof of an adjacent building, making several critical openings to prevent further spread. Mutual aid was received from neighboring departments including Berwyn, Stickney, Oak Park, River Forest, Forest Park, Bedford Park, Lyons, and Riverside. All the responding units worked tirelessly, conducting both interior and exterior attacks to save the affected buildings and surrounding properties. Their efforts were crucial in containing the fire and minimizing damage.
